Fly-landers: Flyers Test Limits of Freefall Against the Islanders

Share

Hey, remember when we would all make fun of the New York
Islanders? I mean, technically we still can. After all, the Flyers are 29-3-1
against their Atlantic Division “rivals” dating back to the ’07-08 season.

That being said, the Isles aren’t the ones bringing up the
rear this season. In fact, they’re only two points back of a playoff spot.

Just when you might be thinking things couldn’t possibly get any
worse, they easily could with a loss tonight. Coming to grips with the reality that
the Flyers will likely miss the playoffs was hard enough. Watching their
long-time sacrificial lamb turn the tables on the slaughter might be too much.

They still looked like Bullies in a 7-0 victory in Long
Island back on February 18, but things change. Philly is 2-6-1 over their last
nine, and it sounds like their confidence is shot.

Maybe with Tuesday’s loss to the Rangers, some of the
tension and pressure that has been hanging over the Flyers’ locker room will
ease as expectations are lowered. At this point, that’s about the best we can
hope for.

That, and not losing to the Islanders. Please don’t lose to
the Islanders.
