Corey Stokes, who finished his Villanova basketball career in March with 1,315 points, was arrested Thursday morning in Hoboken, N.J., and charged with two counts of aggravated assault after a brawl involving at least five people, the Newark Star-Ledger reported on its website Friday evening.
Stokes, the fifth-leading three-point shooter in Villanova history, was a key member of the 2009 Final Four team. He worked out this spring for several NBA teams, including the 76ers, but went undrafted last month.
According to the Star-Ledger, the 23-year-old Stokes and two others were charged after allegedly beating one of the victims so badly he lost consciousness and required surgery for a broken jaw.
Judge Richard Nieto set bail for Stokes and the two others at 20,000, according to the paper, and they were sent to Hudson County Jail in Kearny.
The paper quoted the Hoboken police report, which said Stokes and the two others did punch and kick (one victim) about the head and body. This did cause a fractured jaw and require surgery. The victim lost consciousness and was assaulted while unconscious on the ground.

The Star-Ledger story said the second victim was also assaulted after he had lost consciousness.
According to the paper, Stokes and the two others were charged at Central Judicial Processing Court in nearby Jersey City.
Also arrested were Keith McGrath, 22, and Derrel Williams, 23.
The incident occurred at the One Hudson Place complex of condos, restaurants and stores.
Stokes played high school basketball at St. Benedicts Prep in Newark before entering Villanova in the fall of 2007.
Stokes averaged 14.9 points per game this past season, but he struggled with injuries the second half of the season and then made just four of 15 shots in his final college game, an upset loss to George Mason in the first round of the NCAA tournament.
Villanova, ranked as high as No. 6 in the nation earlier this past season, lost nine of its last 13 games to finish 21-11.
