VILLANOVA, Pa. -- Zack Bednarczyk came in for injured All-American John Robertson to lead Villanova to two fourth-quarter touchdowns, rallying the Wildcats to a 28-21 victory over Delaware on Saturday.
Robertson, last year's Payton Award winner, went down on the Delaware 6 with an apparent knee injury. After an incompletion, Bednarczyk, a redshirt freshman, hit Kevin Gulyas with a fourth-down touchdown pass. But the PAT was wide, and the Wildcats (2-1, 1-0 Colonial Athletic) trailed 21-20 with 6:18 remaining.
The Blue Hens (1-2, 0-1) went three-and-out before Bednarczyk led a 74-yard drive, scoring on a weaving 21-yard run with 2:35 left. He also ran in the 2-point conversion.
Delaware followed with an 11-play drive that ended with two sacks and an interception.
Bednarczyk, whose only previous collegiate action came as a holder on kicks, finished 4 of 6 for 57 yards. Gulyas had eight receptions for 152 yards. Robertson, who will have an MRI on Monday, was 14 of 24 for 208 yards with a passing and rushing touchdown.
