If you thought the Phillies outfield depth was an issue, the Phillies went out and got you a little stocking stuffer.
In another effort to bolster their outfield, the Phillies came to terms
today with free-agent outfielder So Taguchi on a one-year contract
worth $1.05 million with a club option for 2009.Taguchi, 38,
figures to give the Phillies a late-game defensive replacement for left
fielder Pat Burrell and insurance against injury to center fielder
Shane Victorino. He also will provide a right-handed bat off the bench,
a role he performed well for the St. Louis Cardinals.
Taguchi should be a nice player off the bench with a good career batting average. Not to mention the fact that he can takeover whatever fan group Tad Iguchi left behind. (Although I think it was something horrible like Tadahito's Burritos so that doesn't exactly work.)
