As the Flyers settle into a much-needed homestand with a
more laidback schedule, step one is get back to .500. They have a chance to do
just that against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Monday night. A win would move
Philadelphia to 10-10-1, reaching the .500 mark for the first time all season.
They failed to get it done in their previous bid last
Thursday, a 5-2 letdown versus the Florida Panthers just 24 hours removed from an
emotional 6-5 victory in Pittsburgh. This time the Flyers are rested, but they’ll
be going for the mark against stiffer competition.
The Leafs arrive in Philly with an 11-8 record, not to
mention with a W over the Orange & Black already in their pocket. They were
victorious in Toronto exactly two weeks ago, the first in a season-long
six-game road trip for the Flyers. Ilya Bryzgalov would get the hook in that
encounter, but turnovers in front of him were the real story there.
News
Bryz will get another crack at the Leafs tonight. While his goals
against average (2.77) and save percentage (.902) have fallen off some over the
past two weeks, he is tied for third place in wins with nine. Toronto will pitch Ben Scrivens, who is 5-5, and
currently tied for the eighth-best SV% in the NHL at .929.
Naturally all eyes will be on the return of James van
Riemsdyk to the Wells Fargo Center as well, but the prize as always is two
points.
