Why propose an appealing counter-offer when you could propose three unappealing ones instead? That's apparently what the NHL Player's Union did this afternoon in Toronto. The NHL was apparently unimpressed and commissioner Gary Bettman categorized the differences between the two sides proposals being so far apart that "it's clear we're not speaking the same language."
Sweet.
There's no real bright side here. The two sides are not close. Any progress we thought we saw earlier in the week appears to have been erased.
