Tommy Gunn Didnt Hear No Bell

Former WBO Heavyweight champ and (more importantly) costar of Rocky V, Tommy Morrison, will attempt a comeback tonight in West Virginia. Morrison, who for years has claimed to have been either set up or just really unlucky, lost his ability to fight professionally when he tested positive for HIV in 1996. In recent tests, Rocky’s Robot has been negative for HIV or AIDS, which either means he was correct that his initial tests showed false positives, or that the doctors don’t know as much as they think they do about the disease.

If I were the bum who Gunn is fighting tonight, I think I’d be a little wary. It’s not like Nevada or New York cleared him to fight again. This is West Virginia… not exactly the Mecca of US boxing… I think George Washington Duke definitely had something to do with this. In the fifth installment of the Rocky series (which was a documentary, filmed in real time), Duke said he could get Rocky cleared even though he had holes in his brain, and the doctors said he couldn't fight again. Puttin’ butts in the buckets, asses in the seats—it’s time to put some hustle behind this muscle!

What could be more intimidating than boxing someone who may or may not have AIDS, and, in all likelihood, has an angel on his shoulder?
