What Would the Flyers Need to Do to Make the Playoffs?

This of course is a theoretical question, like Why am Ihere? or How many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop?I think just about everybody has resigned themselves to the idea that theFlyers will not be making the playoffs this year, but since its notmathematically impossible, what is the math on that anyway?

James Mirtle of the Toronto Globe and Mail estimates themagic number in the Eastern Conference is 52 or more points, which certainlyputs Philadelphia in a bind. Based on that, Orange & Black would have towin 12 of their last 16 games to qualify. Seeing as they havent won more thantwo in a row all season, that sounds unlikely to say the least.

Look on the bright side though. They could be the FloridaPanthers, who have virtually no shot unless they win out. Why is that thebright side?

Well, Florida is the Sunshine State.

Mirtle has the breakdown for every team in the NHL, andthanks to the lockout-condensed schedule, nobody is dead quite yet. Since itsounds a lot like the Flyers have given up on themselves these days however,theres no real reason to believe they have that kind of run in them.
