After his long and illustrious career with the Eagles, in which he never threw an incomplete pass, Chase Daniel has agreed to contract terms to rejoin the Saints.
Daniel, who spent the 2009 through 2012 seasons backing up Drew Brees in New Orleans, spent 2013 through 2015 with the Chiefs and last year with the Eagles, where he went 1 for 1 for 16 yards and a passer rating of 118.8.
According to ProFootballTalk, the one-year deal is worth just $900,000, which means the Eagles are on the hook for $4.1 million of Daniel's guaranteed 2017 salary of $5 million thanks to offsetting language in his deal with the Birds.
Daniel's deal with the Saints does give the Eagles $900,000 in cap relief, but he'll still count $6.1 million in dead money under their 2017 cap instead of the $7 million he would have counted had he not signed with another team.
The Eagles unloaded Daniel earlier this month after he requested his release. They signed former third-round pick Nick Foles, who started 24 games with the Eagles from 2012 through 2014, to back up Carson Wentz.
The Eagles now have nearly $12 million in dead money in 2017 thanks to quarterbacks they have unloaded. Sam Bradford will count $5.5 million against this year's cap.
Factoring in Wentz's $6.063 million cap figure and Foles' $1.6 million number, the Eagles will have about $19.26 million in cap money devoted to various quarterbacks.
