It appears Howie Roseman is staying aggressive as he tries to improve the Eagles’ roster before the trade deadline.
The Eagles didn’t land Oakland receiver Amari Cooper — he instead went to the Cowboys for a first-round pick — but they were at least in pursuit, according to one report.
Parting with a second-round pick wouldn’t have been easy, especially because Cooper is cheap for the just rest of this season and (as his contract stands now) would count for nearly $14 million on a fifth-year option in 2019. But Cooper could have been a player worth extending.
At the very least, this reported offer shows the front office is open to trading assets to improve this roster. And it also shows what we already know: the Eagles could use another playmaker on offense.
It shouldn’t be too surprising the Eagles were willing to part with a second-round pick. They have two second-round picks in next year’s draft thanks to that trade with Baltimore from his past season, when they moved down to select Dallas Goedert.
With two second-rounders, it looks like the Eagles are open to parting ways with one of them if they get a piece that would really improve their team. The Eagles will have a ton of picks in the 2019 draft — around a dozen thanks to compensatory picks that should come back their way.

A second-round pick wasn’t enough to land Cooper, but it should be enough to land another talent. It’s just a matter of whether or not the Eagles see enough value in a different player return.
Last year, Roseman happily shipped off a fourth-round pick to acquire Jay Ajayi from the Dolphins in a move that helped solidify a Super Bowl roster. Adding Ajayi last season felt like more of a luxury than a necessity, though. They were 7-1 when they made that deal.
This year, it really feels like the Eagles need more firepower. Right now, they’re just 3-4 as they head to London to face the Jaguars.
The trade deadline is at 4 p.m. on Oct. 30.
