Marcus Mariota trade scenario: Browns will end up with Kelly's QB

I still don't see how the Eagles reasonably come away with Marcus Mariota, and by reasonably I mean without giving away key current players and high picks in future drafts.

I am standing on my earlier projection that the Browns make the most sense to end up with the QB Chip Kelly likely covets. Cleveland has a mess on its hands at QB, and flexibility with 10 total picks, including Nos. 12 and 19 (from Buffalo) in the first round.

My reasonable scenario that involves three teams:

The Browns trade No. 12 overall, a second (No. 43) and a fifth (No. 147) to Redskins for No. 5 overall. This is a near-perfect exchange (1,700 vs. 1,703 points) according to the NFL draft value chart.

The Browns than send Nos. 5 and 19 to the Titans for No. 2. This also is a near-perfect trade exchange (2,550 vs 2,600 points). Both deals result in fair exchanges for the three teams.

The trade benefits all teams involved in these ways:

• The Browns get the QB they need, and they still hold picks in Round 3, Round 4 (two picks), Round 6 (two picks) and Round 7.

So, to get Mariota, Cleveland exchanges a first-round pick this year (No. 12 becomes No. 2), and loses a 1, 2 and 5. In essence, moving from No. 12 to No. 2 costs the Browns a 1, 2 and 5. Not bad work. And nothing in 2016 is included in the deal.

• The Redskins fulfill their stated goal of acquiring picks -- bringing their total to nine, with three picks in the top 43 -- and remaining in target range for a premier player at No. 12.

• The Titans get a pair of first-round picks (five and 19) by moving down only three slots, still in range for a premier player they might have drafted originally.

If Cleveland and Tennessee are interested in trading up and down, respectively, with Mariota in their sites, then it's reasonable to expect the Oregon Duck will be a Brown Thursday night.
