HOUSTON — Houston's J.J. Watt and Whitney Mercilus will miss the rest of the season with injuries.
Coach Bill O'Brien confirmed that both were season-ending injuries on Monday, a day after Watt broke his left leg and Mercilus, a linebacker, tore a pectoral muscle in a loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
Watt sustained a tibial plateau fracture to end his season early for the second straight year. The three-time Defensive Player of the Year returned in 2017 after missing the last 13 games of last season following his second back surgery. The defensive end played every game in his first five seasons in the NFL before his injury last year.
Mercilus, who is in his sixth season, started each game this year and had 10 tackles and a sack.
Hall of Fame QB Tittle dies
Y.A. Tittle, the Hall of Fame quarterback and 1963 NFL Most Valuable Player, has died. He was 90.
His family confirmed to LSU, where Tittle starred in college, that he passed away. No details were immediately provided.
Known as "The Bald Eagle" as much for his sturdy leadership as his prematurely receding hairline, Tittle played 17 seasons of pro football. He began with the All-America Football Conference's Baltimore Colts in 1948 and finished with the NFL's New York Giants. He played 10 years in between with the San Francisco 49ers, but had his greatest success in New York, leading the Giants to three division titles in four years in a remarkable late-career surge.

Giants: Odell Beckham officially done for year
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — The winless New York Giants are going to be without offensive catalyst Odell Beckham Jr. for the rest of the season.
The Giants announced Monday that Beckham will have surgery for his broken left ankle later this week, and coach Ben McAdoo later said it will end the wide receiver's season.
"It's a sad situation," McAdoo said
The 24-year-old Beckham was hurt late in the fourth quarter of Sunday's 27-22 loss to Los Angeles when Chargers cornerback Casey Hayward fell on his ankle and pinned it to the turf.
McAdoo spoke to Beckham after the game. He did not if the surgery could cause any long-term problems for the three-time Pro Bowler, who has led the Giants in receiving in each of his first three seasons.
Beckham was the last of four Giants' receivers knocked out of the game.
Dwayne Harris, who also returns punts and kickoffs, will have surgery Tuesday for a broken foot.
Brandon Marshall and Sterling Shepard were hurt on the same series in the second quarter. Marshall was undergoing further testing and examination Monday.
Shepard is listed as day to day.
Bills: Disaster averted with Charles Clay
ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — Buffalo Bills starting tight end Charles Clay is out indefinitely after having surgery on his left knee.
Without providing a specific timetable, coach Sean McDermott said Clay will miss "multiple weeks." Buffalo (3-2) enters its bye week off following a 20-16 loss at Cincinnati.
Clay was hurt while being tackled along the sideline after making a 24-yard catch in the first quarter against the Bengals.
Clay has been the Bills' most dependable and productive receiver. He's second on the team with 20 catches and leads Buffalo with 258 yards, and tied for the team lead with two touchdowns.
His injury further depletes an offense that's missing starting receiver Jordan Matthews, who is out indefinitely with a broken right thumb.
