Eagles rookie John Hightower is a healthy scratch for Sunday’s home game against the Saints.
Hightower, a fifth-round rookie, once led the Eagles’ receivers in snaps during a three-game stretch (Weeks 3-5) earlier this year. And now he’s inactive.
And, yes, Alshon Jeffery, J.J. Arcega-Whiteside and Quez Watkins are all active over him. For a team that should be prioritizing getting young players more time, having Jeffery active over Hightower seems strange to say the least.

Here’s the Eagles’ full list of inactives:
- Rudy Ford (hamstring)
- T.J. Edwards (hamstring)
- Michael Jacquet (hamstring)
- Grayland Arnold (hamstring)
- John Hightower
- Nate Sudfeld
- Jason Huntley
JJAW is active for the first time since the Dallas game, when he played five offensive snaps. He spent two weeks on the NFL’s COVID-19 list and was a healthy scratch last week.
With Sudfeld inactive again, Jalen Hurts will get his first-career start and Carson Wentz will be his backup against the Saints.
NFL
Cornerback Kevon Seymour, who was signed from the practice squad on Saturday, is active. So are CB Jameson Houston and LB Rashad Smith, who were both elevated from the practice squad on Saturday.
Genard Avery is active after being inactive last week. He was active against the Seahawks after returning from IR but didn’t play on defense in that game. So he hasn’t taken a defensive snap since the Baltimore game on Oct. 18.
The Eagles put Jason Peters on IR on Saturday and Nate Herbig will start in his place at right guard. This means the Eagles will have their 12th different OL in 13 games:
LT: Jordan Mailata
LG: Isaac Seumalo
C: Jason Kelce
RG: Nate Herbig
RT: Jack Driscoll
