Andy Reid's son Britt faces jail time after DWI charge

Andy Reid’s son Britt was formally charged with drunk driving Monday in connection with the February car crash in Kansas City that severely injured a 5-year-old girl.

According to the Jackson County Missouri Prosecutor’s office, the 35-year-old Reid was charged with driving while intoxicated resulting in serious physical injury.

Kansas City TV station KSNT reported that the charge is a class D felony and carries a possible jail sentence of one to seven years.

According to the prosecutor’s office, the girl injured in the crash “suffered severe traumatic brain injury, a parietal fracture, brain contusions and subdural hematomas.”

The prosecutor’s office said Reid was driving 84 miles-per-hour near Arrowhead Stadium and had a blood-alcohol concentration of .113. A driver in Missouri is considered intoxicated if he has a blood alcohol content of 0.08 or higher.

“Reid was driving on Feb. 4, 2021, near Interstate 435 and Stadium Drive in Kansas City while under the influence of alcohol and acted with criminal negligence by driving at an excessive rate of speed, failing to be aware of a disabled vehicle, striking it and causing physical injury to a child in that vehicle,” according to the prosecutor’s office’s release Monday.

The release from prosecutor Jean Peters Baker’s office said Reid is expected to surrender on Tuesday with his attorney. The prosecutor’s office requested that bail be set at $100,000 and asked that Reid be placed on a GPS with alcohol monitoring.

Britt Reid was the Chiefs' linebackers coach when the incident occurred on Feb. 4, three days before the Super Bowl in Tampa. Reid was placed on administrative leave, did not accompany the team to Tampa for the Super Bowl and did not have his contract renewed after the season ended.

Britt Reid worked as a training camp intern for the Eagles at Lehigh University in Bethlehem during the summer of 2009. He coached at Temple in 2011 and 2012 before joining his father’s staff in Kansas City in 2013.
