Another defensive coach leaving Eagles' coaching staff

Another assistant coach is on his way out.

Although the circumstances aren’t clear, Eagles linebackers coach Ken Flajole is leaving the team, according to Alex Marvez of SiriusXM NFL Radio.

Flajole was part of Doug Pederson’s original 2016 coaching staff. With defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz stepping down and Flajole leaving, safeties coach Tim Hauck and assistant defensive coordinator Dino Vasso are the only defensive coach remaining from the Eagles’ 2017 Super Bowl coaching staff.

Similar to Schwartz, the 66-year-old Flajole is considering retiring. The Eagles will have a new defensive coordinator in 2021, and it’s possible either Flajole wasn’t interested in working with a new coach at this point in his career and it’s also possible the new coach would want to bring in at least some of his own position coaches.

Flajole coached at seven colleges and also with the Packers, Seahawks, Panthers, Rams, Saints and Browns in a 42-year coaching career. He’s been either a linebacker or secondary coach with the exception of 2009 through 2011, when he served as Rams defensive coordinator under former Eagles linebackers coach Steve Spagnuolo.

Flajole is the fourth assistant coach to leave since the season ended. In addition to Schwartz stepping down, the Eagles did not offer contracts to senior offensive assistant Rich Scangarello or senior offensive consultant Marty Mornhinweg.
