Getting Hurts again
NFL
Rookie quarterback Jalen Hurts will make his second career start against the Cardinals on Sunday afternoon. Hurts wasn’t perfect against the Saints last week but he provided a spark that helped the Eagles snap their four-game losing streak as they beat one of the best teams in the conference.
But this week, Hurts will see a much different defense out of Arizona and the Cardinals also have the benefit of being able to watch game tape of Hurts in the Eagles’ offense. Sure, Hurts played most of the second half against the Packers, but he was still running the offense the Eagles prepared for Carson Wentz. It looked much different against the Saints.
So this week, it’ll be on the Eagles to predict how the Cardinals are going to defend Hurts and figure out a way to beat them.
To tank or not to tank
Earlier this week, Jason Kelce passionately explained why tanking isn’t an option for the Eagles and I totally agree with his premise. That a winning culture thrives around winning. But in this case, there’s a pretty big difference in draft selection. If the season ended before Week 15, the Eagles would pick at No. 9 but they could go either way in a hurry.
If the Eagles go on a run and win the division, the best draft pick they can end up with is No. 19. If they bottom out in these last three games, they could easily end up with a top-5 pick. So we’re talking about a 13-15 pick disparity.
Another OL combo
With Jack Driscoll’s latest knee (MCL) injury, the Eagles will have yet another offensive line combination. This one will be their 13th in 14 games, which is absolutely insane. It was insane a month ago and it’s nearly unfathomable now. The job Jeff Stoutland has done with his guys is incredible.
Here’s what we’re looking at on Sunday:
LT: Jordan Mailata
LG: Isaac Seumalo
C: Jason Kelce
RG: Nate Herbig
RT: Matt Pryor
Pryor has struggled earlier this season and it’s been a really weird year for him. He was thought to be the starter at right guard, got moved to left tackle, didn’t start the opener, has started at a couple positions this year, went on the COVID-19 list, got benched and is now back in the starting lineup. Like I said, weird year.
