ATLANTA — Davion Taylor, who came into the weekend listed as questionable, will not play in the opener against the Falcons.
The Eagles’ second-year linebacker joins Rodney McLeod (knee) and Landon Dickerson (knee) among the team’s inactive players for Week 1. McLeod and Dickerson were ruled out on Friday.
Here’s the full list of Eagles inactives for Week 1:
- S Rodney McLeod (knee)
- OL Landon Dickerson (knee)
- LB Davion Taylor (calf)
- QB Gardner Minshew
- CB Mac McCain III
Early in training camp, Taylor was getting first-team reps in Jonathan Gannon’s defense but then he suffered a calf injury that initially had him in a boot. He missed most of the summer and for a guy with limited football experience, that’s a shame.
After dealing with a knee injury this week, Brandon Brooks is active and will start at right guard for the Eagles. He was not given an injury designation on Friday, signaling he was ready to play. This will be Brooks’ first meaningful game since the 2019 regular season finale. He missed that year’s playoff game with a shoulder injury and all of last season with a torn Achilles.
Here’s the Eagles’ starting offensive line (from left to right): Jordan Mailata, Isaac Seumalo, Jason Kelce, Brooks, Lane Johnson.
Since they didn’t elevate Jordan Howard (or anyone, for that matter), the Eagles have just three active running backs for this game: Miles Sanders, Boston Scott and Kenny Gainwell. Could be a big day for Sanders.
Even though McLeod and Dickerson were both ruled out on Friday, head coach Nick Sirianni was asked how they looked during the week as they continue to ramp up.
“Really good,” Sirianni said. “I've really been pleased with Landon. I'm getting to see Rodney even more since he's working on the scout team a little bit for us.
“I’m just seeing every day – I'd just like to take a second to brag on Rodney, because every day I see why – every day, more and more from the day I got here till now, I see more and more why the guys have voted him a captain. He is a team player, he's a good player and he just leads by example over and over and over again and he can be vocal when he needs to. It's been a great look for our offense this week because Rodney was running the defensive scout (team).”
Without McLeod, the Eagles will start either Marcus Epps or K'Von Wallace at safety next to Anthony Harris.
