Pederson swipes undrafted QB from Eagles

Former Brown quarterback EJ Perry was expected to sign with the Eagles but he’s had a change of heart.

Instead, he’s going to play with a former Eagles head coach.

In the flurry of post-draft activity Brown actually tweeted that Perry was heading to Philadelphia. But Perry’s agent on Tuesday morning told NFL Network and ESPN that Perry has instead decided to go to Jacksonville, where he’ll be coached by Doug Pederson.

NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reported that the Eagles agreed to terms with Perry on Saturday as they were waiting to hear back from another UDFA: QB Carson Strong. There were a bunch of teams fighting for Strong and the Eagles weren’t sure they’d get him.

But eventually, the Eagles were able to land Strong thanks to guaranteeing him a reported $320,000 — a huge amount for an undrafted rookie. So Perry would have had less opportunity in Philly than he originally thought, so he heads to Jacksonville.

Perry, 23, was a two-year starter at Brown. In 2021, he completed 66.4% of his passes for 3,033 yards with 23 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. He’s also pretty mobile, rushing for over 400 yards in 2021 and over 700 yards in 2019. He began his career at Boston College before transferring to Brown.

The 6-1, 211-pounder quarterback had a chance to be drafted but never heard his name called. Now he’s heading to Florida.

Here’s a list of the other known Eagles’ UDFAs from various reports:

Mario Goodrich, CB, Clemson
Josh Jobe, CB, Alabama
Carson Strong, QB, Nevada
Josh Blackwell, CB, Duke
Noah Elliss, DT, Idaho
Kennedy Brooks, RB, Oklahoma
William Dunkle, OG, San Diego State
Josh Sills, G, Oklahoma State
Reed Blankenship, S, Middle Tennessee State
Britain Covey, WR, Utah
