Elbow to face caused Briere's concussion

The long All-Star break allowed Flyers center Danny Briere to sit down and figure out how and when he was concussed on Jan. 21 at New Jersey.

Briere said early Tuesday that Devils defenseman Anton Volchenkov elbowed him in the face in the first period.

He hit with an elbow to my cheek, just under my shield, Briere said. Ive always been pretty good in avoiding those kind of hits, being aware out there. I never saw this coming.

So he catches me high, then I had another hit and started to feel somethings not right and then late in the game I absolutely got crushed and I knew something was wrong. I just didnt feel right.

Briere will miss his third straight game Tuesday as the Flyers host Winnipeg.

He took part in Mondays practice and skated with the team today, but like James van Riemsdyk, is not expected back this week, until at least the weekend.
Loose pucks
Ilya Bryzgalov will be in goal tonight.the Flyers had some momentum coming into the All-Star break, taking five of six points in three games. Im ready to gonot that that matters, its the guys on the ice, coach Peter Laviolette said. We had a good practice yesterday, they seemed to be alert. We had a good pregame skate. That doesnt necessarily mean anything but its good, positive signs. We need to go out and play a strong game.
