The Flyers' Kevin Hayes, like the rest of the NHL's players, is spending some down time in his house while the league is suspended.
Unfortunately for Hayes, he just moved into a new place, which means he's a bit short on things to do. So he hopped on the Spittin' Chiclets podcast with former NHLers Ryan Whitney and Paul Bissonnette, and current NHLer Keith Yandle, to talk about their lives while social distancing, and of course some hockey.
The best part of the pod, though, started when Hayes outlined his very empty apartment:
I just moved into a new place, so I'm tryin' to f-----' get groceries, get the essentials. I have a bed and a couch in there, and a TV with Xbox.
Talk about the bare minimum there, Hayesy. (Photos from his Twitter account also show a pool table, and a fairly stocked bar, but not much else.)
A few minutes later, Hayes offered up a very interesting detail on how he handles his (very regular?) moves between apartments:
HAYES: You guys are gonna think I'm an idiot, and an a--hole who just wastes money, but every year I leave the Xbox or Playstation in the apartment I was previously in and give it to the movers.
CHICLETS: That's a nice gesture.
HAYES: So I buy a new one every year. This year, I'm on Xbox.
NHL
That's a pretty unique tip for the moving crew. Gotta say, though, as someone who has set up plenty of gaming consoles over the years, that would drive me nuts.
Also, the Chiclets guys noted that Hayes' penchant for leaving expensive items behind reminded them of one popular Philly athlete: Allen Iverson.
During his playing days, Iverson reportedly would opt to buy new clothes on the road instead of bringing his stuff with him, and then would often leave those clothes behind, or give them away.
Here's how Hayes feels about the characterization:
No, I honestly just try to get the f--- out of my place. I hire the movers, I take all my clothes, and I'm like, 'Alright, hopefully all my furniture shows up to my next spot.' And if not, I'll just buy new s---.
It's hard to fault the logic.
Here's hoping Hayes gets through his time away from hockey, considering his bare living arrangement. Maybe he and Gritty can play some Rocket League.
