Flyers sign prospect Wyatte Wylie to entry-level contract

Wyatte Wylie is staying in the Flyers' defensive picture.

As was pretty much expected, the club signed the prospect to a three-year entry-level contract Tuesday night.

Wylie, a 6-foot, 190-pound blueliner who was selected by the Flyers in the fifth round of the 2018 draft, has become a point-per-game player during his fourth junior hockey season with the WHL's Everett Silvertips. Wylie is second among all WHL defensemen with 64 points (14 goals, 50 assists) in 62 games this season. Since 2018-19, the 20-year-old has put up a plus-61 rating.

"I really take pride in that," Wylie said last summer at Flyers development camp after recording a plus-33 mark in 2018-19. "I know it all depends on who you play with and stuff like that, but just to be in the plus category is a big upside. I really worked on that, made sure I kept the puck out of my end and I could focus on the other parts of my game."

In 2020-21, Wylie is set for his first pro season with AHL affiliate Lehigh Valley.

A few other notable defensive prospects remain unsigned by the Flyers: Wyatt Kalynuk, Linus Hogberg and David Bernhardt.

Kalynuk is a junior at Wisconsin and his rights don't expire until the summer of 2021. The rights of Hogberg and Bernhardt will expire June 1 if the Flyers don't sign the Swedish blueliners.

The Flyers also have decisions to make on college forwards Tanner Laczynski and Wade Allison, whose rights expire on Aug. 15. The Flyers should be able to get deals done with both of them.

"With Allison and Tanner, I think they're looking to turn pro, we have a good relationship with them and I think we're hopeful both will sign with us," Flyers general manager Chuck Fletcher said Jan. 14. "You never know until you get it done but they're two kids that can help in the short term as well as the long term. Big, strong, right-shot kids with skill and play the game the right way.

"Kalynuk can go back for another season. But a young man, great skating ability and he's a young player that looks like he's got a real good pro career.

"So certainly at the end of their college seasons, we'll talk to all three of them. We certainly have the opportunity if they’re looking to jump."
