Phillies tickets reach insane prices with fans allowed at CBP

When April 1 rolls around, it will have been 551 days since the Phillies played in front of live fans at Citizens Bank Park.

If you think fans are pretty eager to get a live look at the Phils following Tuesday's announcement from the city and the organization that 8,000 fans will be allowed into the park on Opening Day... well, eager might be an understatement.

Tickets on Stubhub for the Phils' Opening Day matchup with the Braves that Thursday are going for sky-high prices starting at an eye-watering $523 each (yes, each), mirroring a trend around the league as baseball-hungry fans start to trickle back into the parks they were kept out of last summer because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

You can wander over to the Stubhub page to look at Phillies tickets yourself, and here's a sampling of equally wild Opening Day prices from around the league as of Tuesday night:

  • Blue Jays at Yankees: Starting at $422
  • Diamondbacks at Padres: Starting at $950
  • Cleveland at Tigers: Starting at $199
  • Pirates at Cubs: Starting at $427
  • Orioles at Red Sox: Starting at $379
  • Rays at Marlins (!): Starting at $213

Just totally insane numbers for a baseball game, although it's at least somewhat understandable. I certainly don't have the money to drop on tickets like those, but if you do, you get to be part of history as the first fans back into the park after a global pandemic altered the world of sports (and the world as we know it) for an entire year-plus. Talk about a moment in time, and a story you'll have for the rest of your life.

If you'd like to be part of the 8,000 in attendance but don't have Stubhub money, non-season ticket holder tickets go on sale to the general public on Friday, March 12 at

Tickets to the other 62 regular-season home games will go on sale in early April. All tickets will be mobile.
