Phillies Notes: Decision to be made on Aaron Nola's usage

ATLANTA -- The Phillies will have a discussion about how much they’ll use pitcher Aaron Nola for the last two weeks of the season.

“We’ll talk about it after this start and see how he feels and make a decision after that,” manager Pete Mackanin said.

Since being called up from Triple A Lehigh Valley on July 21, Nola has made 11 starts for the Phillies. He’s gone 6-2 with a 4.11 ERA and 59 strikeouts in 65 2/3 innings.

Nola made 18 starts in the minor leagues before his call-up and threw 109 1/3 innings.

Franco remains in Florida
It isn’t certain whether the Phillies will get third baseman Maikel Franco back before the end of the season. Franco is currently on a rehab assignment in Clearwater, Florida.

Franco was placed on the disabled list on Aug. 12 with a left wrist fracture.

Franco has taken live batting practice, but isn’t ready to return. He report feeling a “twinge” in the wrist over the weekend.

“He’s going to stay there and continue to rehab,” Mackanin said.

Phils shut down Morgan
The Phillies are shutting down left-handed pitcher Adam Morgan for the rest of the season, according to Leslie Gudel.

Morgan, who is a little more than a year removed from shoulder surgery, has made 15 starts for the Phils in 2015, posting a 5-7 record with a 4.48 ERA in 84 1/3 innings. He's also struck out 49 batters and walked just 17 in the majors.

Prior to his call-up, the 25-year-old made 13 starts for Triple A Lehigh Valley this season. In those outings, he went 0-6 with a 4.74 ERA in 68 1/3 innings of work.
