Sixers take J.P. Tokoto, Luka Mitrovic to finish draft

It took four earlier selections and several hours, but the Sixers finally took a guard in the NBA draft on Thursday.

Sam Hinkie snagged J.P. Tokoto of North Carolina with the 58th overall pick.

However, Hinkie didn't deviate from stockpiling big men for long. He grabbed Serbian power forward Luka Mitrovic with the 60th and final pick of the night.

J.P. Tokoto: Small forward, 6-6/200, North Carolina
K.J. McDaniels 2.0.

That would appear to be exactly what the Sixers got in Tokoto. With McDaniels traded to Houston at the February deadline, the Sixers added another high-flying wing that can defend in the former Tarheel.

Tokoto did a little bit of everything for North Carolina. He notched 8.3 points, 5.6 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game last season.

He really made his mark on defense by using his extreme athleticism and high energy level to get in the passing lanes (1.5 steals per game). Plus, Tokoto's versatility should allow him to guard multiple positions at the next level.

Much like McDaniels, expect Brett Brown and Co. to work with Tokoto to improve his on-the-rise jump shot. The 21-year-old shot 37.5 percent from three-point range last season.

A little fine-tuning and the Sixers should have the quintessential "3-and-D" swingman on their hands.

Luka Mitrovic: Power forward, 6-9/200, Serbia
The Sixers closed out the 2015 NBA draft on Thursday night by selecting the 6-foot-9 Mitrović of the Adriatic and Serbian basketball league champion, Zvezda.

Mitrović hails from Novi Sad in Serbia, the same hometown as notorious basketball player Darko Miličić and tennis great Monica Seles.

A pro basketball player since 2010, the 22-year-old averaged 8.6 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 24 Euroleague games. In 33 Adriatic League games, Mitrović averaged 10 points and 5.9 rebounds per game, while shooting 49.2 percent from the floor and 34.1 percent from three-point range.

According to NBADraft.net, Mitrović is more of a 'tweener than a true power forward. His offensive game is strongest when he can play facing the basket, and he has a strong motor.

The Sixers need shooters, so Mitrović could have a chance if he makes shots.
