After Record Breaking Season, Westbrook May Get Paid

While Brian Westbrook didn't get a paycheck this season, Derrick Gunn of Comcast Sportsnet says a source has told him the Eagles front office is willing to open up the check book in '08.  Gunn says the Birds have approached Westbrook and his agent Fletcher Smith about restructuring the running back's current contract.  It's well documented that under his current deal, the Eagles are getting a bargain price for one of the league's elite playmakers.

It would be totally out of character for the Eagles to pay a player more than they are obligated to by contract.  Brian Westbrook may be the only player who could warrant this remarkable change.

Is this just another instance of the Eagles being hypocritical -- offering to restructure with BWest but not T.O. -- or do the Birds realize this guy is the franchise for the next five years and they need him to be happy?  Personally, I think it's a bit of both.
