Flyers Gamethread: See You in Saint Looey…

Share

One night removed from engaging in what 610 WIP’s Tim Saunders and Chris TEH-rien called “The strangest game of this season,” the Flyers head to St. Louis for a showdown with the Blues.  Friday night’s 6-1 romp over the Tampa Bay Lightning had it all: a re-ignition of Richards and Carter’s offense, a political cameo, fisticuffs, disallowed goodness and even a bit of mood lighting.  How can an 8:30 pm start in the city with an arch begin to compete with that?

Well, for starters, the Blues are auditioning to be the understudy for your favorite Flyers punching bag, the Atlanta Thrashers.  The Orange and Black have not lost to the Blues since 2002, and even more impressive is the fact that they have not lost in St. Louis since 2000.   Also, the only Blue who seems to fare well against the Flyers on a consistent basis is Keith Tkachuk, scorer of 15 goals in his last 20 games versus Philly.

John Stevens and Co. look to get their fourth win in five games, hopefully by staying out of the penalty box.  The penalty to power play disparity this season has become downright scary and it should be at the top of the coach’s list of “things to figure out before the playoffs.”  Enjoy the game tonight, and if you were wondering… yes, I do in fact own a Brett Hull MVP SportStars Power Skater (wrestling) buddy.
