Flyers Top Last Year's Win Total

Share

We're just past the season's halfway point, and the Flyers have already topped last year's 22 wins. Not that 22 wins, the worst season in Flyers history, was much of milestone, but it does say a lot about how much progress Paul Holmgren made in the off-season, and John Stevens and the young team have made on the ice.

The Washington Capitals graciously hosted the party, a 6-4 victory that saw Mike Knuble and company chase goalie Olaf Kolzig from the crease after letting up 4 goals. Knuble scored 2 in the first period, but was unable to net his first career hat trick. Jim Dowd and RJ "Icanhas" Umburger also scored, and Mike Richards knocked home the rebound on a great Steve Downie shot. Kimmo Timonen scored on a long, risky empty net shot, icing the victory for Marty Biron, who gave up 4 goals.

Highlights after the jump.
