Seeking All-Important Daytime TV-Watching Demographic, Flyers and Islanders Skate at 2PM Today

For some reason, the weekday matinee hockey game doesn't have quite the gravitas of a business person special does for baseball. Fortunately, they're pretty rare, and today's 2PM start is in honor of Veterans Day (which, incidentally, most companies do not award as a holiday).

Desperately in need of a win to get off their second losing skid of the short season, the Flyers face the Islanders for the second time in 12 days. They won the last outing in OT on the strength of two Jeff Carter goals. Few teams in the conference have more goals against than the Flyers, but the Islanders are one of them. The Isles are also near the bottom in scoring, but before we point and laugh, it's important to note that they're just one point behind the Flyers in the standings.

The Flyers have been an enigma so far, a point that was aptly summed up by coach John Stevens.

"It's odd when we're scoring goals in bunches and couldn't keep them
out of our net, now we are keeping them out of our net and we are not
scoring,"

Annnd Andy Reid has a seizure.

Against the Islanders, you'd hope the Flyers could come alive at both ends of the ice. Marty Biron will be in net this afternoon.
