With 2007 #1 overall pick Patrick Kane paying immediate dividends in Chicago, some Flyers fans are wondering how James van Riemsdyk, who the Flyers selected at #2, has been doing since draft day. Jimmy van enrolled at the University of New Hampshire this year, but is also playing for the US World Junior team. UNH HockeyBlog has been tracking his progress, and yesterday reported that in 13 UNH games, JVR has 6 goals and 9 assists.

At the World Juniors, where Team USA is 4-0, van Riemsdyk leads all scorers with 4 goals and 6 assists in 4 games. On Monday, he scored a goal and 3 assists in a win over Finland. PhillyBurbs reports that GM Paul Holgren will spend a few days at the tournament watching the future Flyers blue-liner and evaluating his progress.

The Flyers may call on him sooner than expected, though it's still early in his development, so it'll be awhile yet. Either way, if Snoop approves, we're on board.
