Billy Lange is returning to Villanova.

After spending the last seven years as Navys head coach, Lange is rejoining Jay Wrights staff as the associate head coach. The 39-year-old Lange spent three years (2001-04) on Wrights staff before being hired by the Midshipmen. He was named the Patriot League Coach of the Year in 2008.

Billy is a passionate and dedicated coach who played a substantial role in instilling the qualities that our staff values most during our early years here, Wright said in a statement released by the university. Now he returns with the added experience of having built his own program at the Division I level. His knowledge and passion will be a great boost to our young team.

A native of Haddon Heights, N.J. and 1994 graduate of Rowan University, Lange was an assistant coach at Philadelphia U. and La Salle before becoming the head coach at the Merchant Marine Academy. He then returned to the Philadelphia area in 2001 to become Villanovas director of basketball operations.

Once a Wildcat, always a Wildcat, Lange said.

Wright also lost a member of his staff, as assistant coach Chris Walker left to become the associate head coach at Texas Tech.

Villanova soon will announce another coaching addition.

Billys return is a significant step in this process, Wright said, but we expect to have more to announce soon.
