Each week during the 2022 season, we’re going through the Eagles’ media guide to find an interesting nugget.
The Eagles’ PR interns do a great job filling out these little oddities in the media guides and they serve as a good way to meet the player behind the helmet.
This week, we chatted with rookie center Cam Jurgens, whose dream job outside playing football would be: “Probably a NASCAR driver, especially when I was a little kid.”

Me: Was NASCAR a big deal in your family growing up?
Jurgens: I think that was probably when I was a little kid. I probably thought it would be fun to be an NFL player or a NASCAR driver.
Me: Do you follow it at all now?
Jurgens: No.
NFL
Me: Did you as a kid, though?
Jurgens: A little bit, yeah.
Me: Was there a favorite driver?
Jurgens: I kind of liked the Ford drivers, I was big into those guys. I think back in the day it was, like, Mark Martin or something.
Me: Oh OK. How are you as a driver?
Jurgens: I’m a good driver, I’d say. I’m no racer, but I’ve always wanted to try it out. We had in Beatrice (Nebraska) where I grew up, we had like a dirt race track in town. It was a smaller town thing but it was fun to go to those races as a kid.
Me: The whole town goes out to watch?
Jurgens: Yeah, a lot of people do.
Me: I know there aren’t a ton around here but would you go out and watch now?
Jurgens: Yeah, it would be fun if there were some around.
Me: I think there’s one in Jersey. Where’s that? Atco has a raceway.
Jurgens: Really? That would be pretty cool.
Me: How do you think you would do at it?
Jurgens: I think I’d be alright. I’d probably crash. I’d probably be good up until I crashed.
Me: I think Fletcher Cox is involved in racing.
Jurgens: Oh is he? I’ll have to ask him about it. I’ve talked to him about his cattle before because I grew up on farms and he has a bunch of cows so it was interesting talking to him about that.
NOTE: Cox owns a drag racing team that competes around the country. He grew up fixing cars at a young age.
Me: Oh yeah, at the ranch. Would you fit in a race car?
Jurgens: Oh no. In high school, I tried to fit in one of the racing cars that went out to the dirt track and I was squeezed up tight. You’d have to get one with a special build.
Me: Maybe one of the trucks. Are the trucks bigger?
Jurgens: Yeah, they are. But it’s so tight to get in there. Those doors are welded shut. You gotta get in through the window.
Me: Yeah, it would be a little tough. Maybe when the playing days are done.
Jurgens: Yeah, i’d have to wait a year for me to drop 50 pounds at least.
Me: Thank you. I appreciate it.
Jurgens: Yeah.
