Odubel Herrera is in the Phillies' starting lineup today

The Phillies' lineup for today's Grapefruit League game against the Toronto Blue Jays in Dunedin, Florida is out.

Odubel Herrera is in it, batting fifth and playing right field.

Herrera, 29, has not played in a game for the Phillies — regular season or exhibition — since May 26, 2019. He was arrested in New Jersey on domestic assault charges the next day. Though the legal charges were dropped, Herrera was suspended 85 games without pay by Major League Baseball and missed the remainder of that season. Herrera, under contract through 2021, was assigned to the minor leagues last season but did not appear in a game because the COVID-19 pandemic wiped out the minor-league season.

Herrera, a National League all-star in 2016, was invited to a mini camp with other Phillies minor leaguers this spring and the team has said it will evaluate him for a spot on the big-league roster, possibly as the starting center fielder. Barring something unforeseen, that is the only position up for grabs in Phillies camp and Herrera would be competing with Adam Haseley, Scott Kingery and Roman Quinn for work at the position. Haseley and Kingery are both in the outfield along with Herrera today.

At the start of camp, manager Joe Girardi talked about Herrera's presence in camp.

Here is today's lineup against Toronto.

1. Adam Haseley LF

2. Scott Kingery CF

3. Alec Bohm 3B

4. Jeff Mathis C

5. Odubel Herrera RF

6. C.J. Chatham SS

7. Darick Hall 1B

8. Luke Williams 2B

9. Mickey Moniak DH
