Jalen Hurts' MVP chances take a big hit with Commanders loss

As we close Week 10, the NFL MVP race has taken some turns. One of the favorites has an absolute nightmare of a game, and another candidate has come out of the blue to challenge the throne, as we look at the race up to the moment.

Patrick Mahomes, Chiefs QB: -110 (Last week +155)

Mahomes didn’t do much to hurt his status as the MVP favorite Sunday against Jacksonville, going 26-for-35 for 331 yards and four TDs. He has played at this ridiculous level for so long, it’s become commonplace. With eight weeks left to be played, the race is very much his to lose.

Next Week: at Chargers (5-4)

Jalen Hurts, Eagles QB:  +500 (Last week +275)

Hurts had an opportunity to put on a show on a national television audience this week against the Commanders, but fell short in a disappointing 32-21 loss, the Eagles’ first of the season. Hurts threw for two scores, but finished with just 175 yards against one of the worst pass defenses in the NFL.

Next Week: at Colts (4-5-1)

Tua Tagovailoa, Dolphins QB: +500

Tua’s MVP candidacy seemed to have come from nowhere, but not if you were paying close attention. Since missing two games with a concussion, Tagovailoa has returned with a vengeance, winning four straight games, completing 72 percent of his passes, throwing ten TDs, no interceptions, just two sacks and a stratospheric passer rating of 125.8.

He leads the NFL in passer rating for the season (118.4) and yards per attempt (9.1), and is tied for third in passing TDs (18) despite playing in just 7.5 games.

Next Week: Bye

Josh Allen, Bills QB: +600 (Last week +225)

Allen was a question mark to even play Sunday against the Vikings. In hindsight, he may wish he never got out of bed. Staked to a 10-point fourth quarter lead, his final five drives went as follows: Interception, 3-and-out, Fumbled snap recovered for a TD, FG, Interception in overtime to seal a Vikings win.

Not only is he losing ground in the NFL MVP race, all of a sudden he’s losing his stranglehold on his title as “Best QB in the AFC East.”

Next Week: vs Browns (3-6)

Lamar Jackson, Ravens QB: +1200 (Last week +1400)

The Ravens were on a bye this past week.

Next Week: vs Panthers (3-7)

Joe Burrow, Bengals QB: +2000 (Last week +1800)

The Bengals were on a bye in Week 10, and Burrow’s odds took a bit of a hit, likely due to Tua’s meteoric rise.

Next Week: at Steelers (3-6)
