Tracking every Eagles, NFC East free agency move and rumor

Share

NFL free agency is about to get underway in full as the new league year begins on March 17, with the league's legal tampering period starting Monday. Those rumors are about to start flying.

The salary cap for 2021 is $182.5 million, down from $198.2 million in 2020 due to the financial impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, which leaves teams looking for the best players they can find at a price they can afford - particularly the Eagles, who through releases and restructured deals have been shedding salary, and will continue to do so up until and maybe even after Wednesday afternoon.

Around this time of year, the rumors and moves are a lot to keep up with, so here's a full list of the latest Eagles and Eagles-related free agent rumors, trades and signings around the league, with the most recent moves at the top:

Eagles

DE Derek Barnett's $10 million salary in 2021 is now guaranteed after the Eagles kept him on the roster to start the new league year.

The Eagles are reportedly showing interest in nickel CB K'Waun Williams, although he might be too expensive.

S John Johnson III: Never mind. The Eagles had reported interest in Johnson but he's heading to the Browns.

S Rudy Ford: The Eagles' special teams ace is reportedly signing a two-year deal to join the Jaguars.

CB Jalen Mills: The Green Goblin is headed elsewhere after five years with the Eagles. Mills signed a lucrative four-year deal with the Patriots, which you can read about here.

DE Brandon Graham: The Eagles reached a 1-year extension with Graham to keep him under contract through the 2022 season. It'll pay him nearly $20 million over the next two seasons but will also reduce his cap hit in 2021.

S John Johnson III: The Eagles are one of four teams who have reportedly shown interest in the veteran free agent safety. Read more about his potential fit here.

QB Jacoby Brissett: The Eagles are reportedly expected to have interest in Brissett as a backup QB option for 2021, according to Inside The Birds' Adam Caplan. Read more here about Brissett's potential fit.

ERFA: The Eagles had three exclusive rights free agents: Alex Singleton, Greg Ward Jr. and Boston Scott. They tendered all three, which means they’ll be back at a cheap cost in 2021.

RFA: The Eagles had just one restricted free agent of note. They chose to not tender punter Cameron Johnston, which means he'll become an unrestricted free agents at 4 p.m. on Wednesday. The Eagles could still try to bring him back at a lower price.

Cowboys

CB C.J. Goodwin: The 31-year old corner and special teams ace is staying with Dallas on a two-year deal for $3.5 million, with $2 million guaranteed.

QB Dak Prescott: After playing the 2020 season under the franchise tag, Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys finally committed to one another long-term -- and with a big payday. The two sides reportedly agreed to a four-year, $160 million deal with a whopping $126 million guaranteed.

Giants

Forget that franchise tag. DL Leonard Williams just got PAID a reported three-year, $63 million deal.

DL Leonard Williams: The New York Giants placed the franchise tag on Williams for the second consecutive year. He picked up a career-high 11.5 sacks playing on the tag last season.

The Giants agreed to a two-year, $6 million deal with RB Devontae Booker, according to NFL Network.

Washington

WR Curtis Samuel: The Washington Football Team is signing Samuel to a three-year, $34.5 million deal, according to ESPN.

Washington is re-upping with RB Lamar Miller and K Dustin Hopkins with one-year deals.

CB William Jackson III: Washington is signing the former Bengals corner to a three-year, $42 million deal. Jackson will likely be the WFT's top corner in 2021.

Washington is reportedly signing QB Ryan Fitzpatrick to a one-year deal. The veteran got a one-year deal worth $10 million that can rise to $12 million, according to ESPN.

G Brandon Scherff: The Washington Football Team retained its veteran right guard and captain by using the franchise tag. This is the second straight season where Washington has placed its franchise tag on Scherff, who earned over $15 million in 2020.

Other moves

RB Marlon Mack was a potential backup running back option because of his connections to new head coach Nick Sirianni, but he is reportedly returning to the Colts.

A few backup options are off the market. Andy Dalton is reportedly going to the Bears, Tyrod Taylor is reportedly going to the Texans and Jacoby Brissett is reportedly going to the Dolphins.

The Colts placed a 2nd-round tender on RFA WR Zach Pascal, which basically means "hands off." Any team that would sign Pascal would have to give up a 2nd-round pick to the Colts. That isn't happening, so Nick Sirianni won't get his favorite player in Philly.

CB Sidney Jones is reportedly signing to stay with the Jaguars, according to NFL Network. The former Eagles' 2nd-round pick spent last season in Jacksonville after the Eagles released him.

A couple former Eagles cashed in on Monday. WR Nelson Agholor is heading to New England and CB Ronald Darby is joining the Broncos.

LB Kamu Grugier-Hill: The ex-Eagles linebacker and special teams ace is headed to Houston, according to NFL Network. Grugier-Hill was a member of the Eagles' Super Bowl-winning squad in 2017.

Edge players Shaq Barrett and Romeo Okwara got PAID on Monday, which could affect Derek Barnett's thinking. Reuben Frank has more.

TE Jonnu Smith: The Patriots are signing the tight end to a 4-year, $50 million deal, according to ESPN. This is important for the Eagles because of the tight end market and what it means for Zach Ertz. Perhaps Ertz could be a backup plan for a team that wanted Smith.
