With the OHL season yet to start and still up in the air, Tyson Foerster has found himself getting an extended glimpse of pro hockey.
Last month, the 2020 first-round draft pick was in training camp with the Flyers and played in the club's intrasquad game at the Wells Fargo Center.
The 19-year-old winger then made his professional debut last Saturday in AHL affiliate Lehigh Valley's season-opening 2-1 OT win over Hershey. Foerster's early pro experience took an unfortunate turn when he had to leave the game with an injury suffered in the third period. Foerster will miss three to four weeks with a shin fracture, a source confirmed Tuesday afternoon. The Philadelphia Inquirer's Sam Carchidi first reported the injury and timeline.
Foerster possesses an advanced shot and put up 80 points (36 goals, 44 assists) over 62 regular-season games for the OHL's Barrie Colts in his draft year last season.
The Phantoms currently have three OHL players on their roster in Foerster, Zayde Wisdom and Mason Millman.
"If the Ontario Hockey League comes back and plays, then Millman, Foerster and Wisdom will all return to their respective junior teams," Flyers general manager Chuck Fletcher said on Jan. 12. "If they don’t come back right away or don’t come back at all, then our hope would be to keep those players in the American Hockey League and keep them playing and developing. We'll continue to go by the guidance that's given to us by the NHL."
