New Union kits are electric

Few things get fan bases as hype as new uniforms. The Philadelphia Union got in on the action this morning, dropping an electric new kit:

Yeah... these are amazing. Baby blue is the best sports uniform color unquestionably. That lightning pattern too? We got something special on our hands here.

Some may cry that they're ripping off the Los Angeles' Chargers' uniforms, but that's pure ignorance. The colors of Philadelphia's flag are blue and yellow as an ode to the Swedish colonization of the city way back when. The lightning bolts are an obvious nod to Benjamin Franklin's apocryphal "discovery" of electricity too.

That 18th-century footnote makes its way into the kit with fantastic detail with the kite and key branding, alluding to Franklin's experiment in Philly in 1752:

I need to get one of these and judging by the reaction on Twitter, I'm not alone. Walking on the boardwalk down the shore in this kit (or the phenomenal shorts that are likely to come) makes for a picturesque summer situation. Will I get a grease stain on it from a slice of pizza I got at Sam's in Wildwood? It feels inevitable.

If you're one of those people who want to buy one, it looks like they'll go on sale to the public on Friday, February 5. You can sign up to be notified when they do on the Union's site here.
