Tonight’s scheduled game between the Phillies and New York Yankees at Citizens Bank Park has been postponed because of COVID-19 concerns.
The postponement comes after the Miami Marlins suffered an outbreak of the virus over the weekend in Philadelphia.
The Marlins were without four regular players for Sunday’s game against the Phillies. All four were reportedly in COVID-19 protocol. This morning, ESPN reported that eight additional Marlins players had tested positive for the virus.
The Marlins were supposed to play their home opener against Baltimore on Monday night. That game has been postponed.
Though the Phillies thoroughly sanitize the visiting clubhouse and surrounding areas every day, Major League Baseball and the Phillies decided not to bring another club into that clubhouse, hence tonight’s postponement.
There was no immediate word on a makeup date, or even if one would happen.

After being shut down for four months by the pandemic, Major League Baseball is attempting to play a shortened, 60-game season. The outbreak on the Marlins’ roster and the ripple effect it could cause could threaten the season.
Because of the outbreak, the Marlins pushed back their charter flight from Philadelphia to Miami until this morning. That flight was still grounded in Philadelphia at mid-morning. Players who test positive or come in contact with a person who has tested positive or has symptoms of COVID-19 must enter a quarantine protocol.
